Introducing the IAAF Awards

Welcome back to the Creative Awards London blog where we bring you the very latest and greatest in our custom made awards and trophies. Now, we are absolutely delighted to showcase one of our most recent works that was commissioned by one of the World’s leading Athletics Associations - The International Association of Athletic Federations Awards.

Taking place on the 4th of December at the Grimadi Forum, Monaco more than 80 of the World’s very best athletes descended on the French Riviera for the ceremony that honoured and celebrated their contribute to an unforgettable year for the sport.

For over 20 years, the event has rewarded the athletes and has been integral within the industry for raising the profiles of the various sports that are celebrated. Past winners have become household names and this year was no exception. Taking the award for male world athlete of the year was Eliud Kipchoge who broke the Marathon World Record by finishing the Berlin Marathon with a time of 2:02:57 (shaving over a minute off of the previous time set by his fellow countryman Amos Kipruto). In the women’s category, Caterine Ibargüen respectively took home the award. The Colombian, who won the IAAF Diamond League and Continental Cup titles in triple jump and long jump during another unbeaten season, reconfirmed her place as the best in the World after losing her crown the year before.

Iaaf winners 2018Fitting of a sporting event that would be celebrated across the globe, Creative Awards London were approached by the organisation (headed by Britain’s Lord Sebastian Cole) to create a stand out trophy that would be treasured by the recipients and inspire others to win it. Central to our design was the athletics track. A legendary icon that, since antiquity, has created its own array of legends and myths. A block of clear glass was custom cast, machined and finished with a high glossy finish before a sheet of solid Sterling Silver with the stylised curves of the track cut through and Assay Hallmarks was placed on top. A High Resolution Graphic of the IAAF motif was applied behind the materials that is visible through the apertures in the track. A firm nod towards the importance of the organisation within the development of global athletics. Finally, the winner’s details and athletics motifs of the various track and field disciplines were etched into the surface of the glass and metal. To finish, the award was mounted onto a specially constructed silver metal base.

Creative Awards London would like to thank the IAAF and to offer our congratulations to all involved in making the ceremony and event a great success.
