Pantone Colour Of The Year 2020
Colour.
/ˈkʌlə/
noun
The property possessed by an object of producing different sensations on the eye as a result of the way it reflects or emits light.
Behind every colour lies an emotion, a feeling and something intrinsically very human is inherent within this everyday phenomena that brings such vibrancy to our lives. As 2020 approaches we want to start thinking about the new year through colour and what better way to do it than through Pantone’s recently announced Colour of the Year 2020.
Colour experts at the Pantone Colour Institute comb the world looking for new colour influences, from the entertainment industry to fashion, travel destinations and socio-economic conditions. Following on from the extensive research a defining colour for the forthcoming year – better known as the Colour of the Year – is announced. Celebrating its 20th anniversary, Pantone continues to set and define trends as colour, not time, becomes a measurement of our world. The impact of the colour of the year can be seen across the design and fashion industries and its announcement is a nod to the endless possibilities of the forthcoming year.
Announced on the 4th of December the Classic Blue 19-4052, RGB 15 76 129 and HEX code 0F4C81, is described by Pantone as "a reassuring presence instilling calm, confidence and connection".
"Associated with the return of another day, this universal favourite is comfortably embraced," it added. While 2019's colour Living Coral was an "animating and life-affirming", 2020's shade "brings a sense of peace and tranquillity to the human spirit, offering refuge," according to the company.
The cobalt blue hue is also said to be associated with communication, introspection and clarity. Other benefits of the hue include aiding concentration and helping to re-centre thoughts, particularly in light of technology's accelerating developments.
"A boundless blue evocative of the vast and infinite evening sky, Pantone 19-4052 Classic Blue encourages us to look beyond the obvious to expand our thinking; challenging us to think more deeply, increase our perspective and open the flow of communication," said Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute.
"We are living in a time that requires trust and faith," she added. "It is this kind of constancy and confidence that is expressed by Pantone 19-4052 Classic Blue, a solid and dependable blue hue we can always rely on."
