Welcome back to the Creative Awards London blog where we bring you the very best in our custom made awards and trophies. This week the theme of our social media and blog is the wonderful world of acrylic Perspex. Firstly, what is acrylic? Well, depending on where you are in the world acrylic can have various names and meanings. Cast acrylic is a form of poly(methyl methacrylate) which itself is a transparent thermoplastic that is often used as a lightweight and shatter proof alternative to glass. Cast acrylic is formed through a casting process where a monomer, methyl methacrylate, is mixed with initiators. The material allows for great customisation in terms of shapes, sizes and colours and lends itself well to our awards. We have chosen 5 of our acrylic Perspex awards to showcase our “love” for acrylic Perspex
Part of our financial tombstones category, the Oil Drum Deal Toy is a bespoke creation commissioned by a major oil producer. The bespoke Acrylic award was machined and polished to look like a crude oil drum. Advanced encapsulation techniques were used to encapsulate the crude oil inside of the award and create an organic piece that responds to movement.To finish the award, the details of the deal and partners were hand engraved and with the inscription infilled to celebrate the accomplishments of the business and its people.
Triple Clear Acrylic Molecule Block
Continuing to showcase our adept encapsulation techniques, the Triple Clear Acrylic Molecule Block takes the standard set by the Oil Drum Deal Toy and runs with it. A scaled up design (three times as impressive we say). The minimalist design features sleek straight lines across the body of the award that juxtapose with the rounded capsules inside offering contrast and a point of differentiation. Equally at home on an awards shelf or in an art gallery, this award is a sophisticated and elegant design.
We hit the high seas in one of our latest custom made awards with the Caribbean Blue Wave Block commissioned by one of the world's premier cruise liners. The body of the award is made from blue acrylic that was tinted to create warm, deep blue tones as the award creating an unique effect. A hand-cut, gold anchor motif of the famous logo was added to the front of the award adding an extra depth of colour contrasting with the light blue body. Extra detail was applied through a top secret, industry leading technique to create a patterned wave effect on the crown of the award.
For over 90 years, Bisley have been at the forefront of office design, crafting iconic pieces that form the backbone to many an office across the UK and the world. The renowned storage company approached Creative Awards London to produce a one-off piece that would showcase their iconic products.
The handmade and completely unique Perspex acrylic filing cabinet was constructed over the course of two months. Drawing inspiration from the famous Bisley filing cabinets, each piece was cut and polished by hand. Made entirely from acrylic, the custom commission includes designated drawers, original label holders and the Bisley logo.
Inspired by the French riviera, the wide boulevards of Paris and iconic French design our beautiful Black Perspex Perfume Bottle. A nod to a well known perfume brand in design, the sleek feminine lines of the award ooe elegance and sophistication. Featuring both red and black Perspex, the award was commissioned by a leading perfume retailer in the UK.
