Welcome back to the Creative Awards blog where we showcase the very best in our custom awards and offer a behind the scenes to our design workshop. In today’s blog we don our chainsaw trousers, stick on our ear protectors and look at the behind the scenes of an award that has been over 15 years in the growing.
Commissioned for the World’s No. 1 selling brand of petrol chainsaws, STIHL, this award certainly is a cut above the rest. The company itself was founded in 1926 by Andreas Stihl and remains under the ownership of the family. Over the years the business has expanded into new countries and territories and now offers industry-leading products across pro and consumer ranges including chainsaws, lawn mowers, hedge trimmers, blowers, brush cutters and much, much more.
With this in mind, we set about designing an award that would capture the heritage, function and branding of the business. STIHL are celebrating 40 years of business in Great Britain this year and to mark the occasion, they wanted to recognise the quality in their approved network of STIHL dealers around the country. Many designs were created before the final design was approved - a custom cut acrylic chainsaw resting in an FSC approved log.
The hand produced acrylic chainsaw features a custom graphic of one of STIHL’s most famous chainsaws; the bright orange contrasting beautifully with the cool silvers of the steely business end of the machine. The base of the award was sourced from 15-year-old Forest Stewardship Council approved wood. Each piece of wood is truly unique with the notches and grooves of the bark creating an organic point of difference to the acrylic chainsaw where man and machine meet with nature.
