Docs Ireland Awards

Welcome back to the Creative Awards London blog where we bring you the very best in our bespoke custom awards and trophies. Film awards are incredibly close to the hearts of the hard working team at Creative Awards London. In fact, many of our staff have experience within the film industry as writers, lighting and prop engineers and even fluffers. Our love of the medium is captured by the beautiful awards we make for some of the most exciting film festivals around and, it is with great pleasure, that we are proud to announce the latest entry in our film awards portfolio: The Belfast Film Festival.

Founded in 1995 by writer Laurence McKeown, the festival was part of the Féile an Phobail (The Community Festival), and originally was known as the West Belfast Film Festival. Under the guidance of Michele Devlin and Laurence McKeown in 2000 the festival became the Belfast Film Festival. Now the largest film festival in Northern Ireland 2018 saw an audience of 23,3000 in attendance. The citywide event, expanded from its humble origins, now involves the entire city with venues in the North, South, East and West of Belfast.

Indeed, the festival prides itself on not just the quality of filmmaking on show but also with experimenting with media in all its forms and has presented cinematic collaborations in St Anne’s Cathedral with an accompaniment by NI Opera’s Young Artists’ programme. Other examples of its commitment to the experience include the showing of the horror masterpiece Suspiria at the Waterfront venue with a live soundtrack by Italian rock band Goblin. Taking place between the 12th – 16th June 2019 the festival embraces film in all its forms and categories include:

  • Short Film Competition
  • Audience Award
  • Maysles Brother's Documentary Competition
  • Short Documentary Competition
  • Outstanding Contribution to Cinema Award
  • Lifetime Achievement Award
  • Réalta Award

Docs Ireland AwardsCreative Awards London were tasked with creating a one of a kind of award that would capture the message and branding of the event. Our designers sat down and brainstormed ideas around film and drew inspiration from the aperture of a camera for the starting point of the acrylic award.  The award features 6 individually designed pieces of teal acrylic that slot together with 2 white pieces to create the aperture effect. Each piece of acrylic was specially cut to resemble the closing of a lens and fit together seamlessly to create a thought provoking design.

We would like to wish all of the participants congratulations for the wonderful work produced for the film festival.
